Man And Animals

Man And Animals

Can animals fight for their rights in the courtrooms? They cannot on their own, but we can on their behalf. Animals are our fellow creatures. They need our concern and love. Realizing the importance of the relationship, we have Animal Rights Societies all around the world. Germany has taken the lead to become the first government in the world to guarantee animal rights in its constitution.

What is the need for the law to take care of animal rights? In a society that portends to be humane, is it correct to subject animals to painful laboratory tests? Are we fair in raising millions of domestic animals under inhuman conditions for slaughter and consumption? Who has given us the right to kill animals for sport or cage animals for entertainment?

These questions need to be answered. We have to apply rationale in our thinking. We need to discipline ourselves and protect the animals.

Animals are no inferior to man. They do most of the things the way humans do. The geese teach their young goslings their migration routes. Puppies, kittens, bear cubs play and run the way our children play. Animals also experience grief. The elephants for example stand close to their dead kin and remain silent for days. They occasionally touch the dead bodies with their trunks and express their grief.

Orangutans when given a mirror explore parts of their body showing a sense of self. Gorillas can easily learn sign language and can understand human words. Parrots are known for their ability to identify objects, colors and also add or separate objects into categories. Crows can create tools.

Our scientists have proved more than once that animals and man have striking similarities in the brain anatomy and chemistry.

Time now to ask our selves a question? Are animals inferior to man? The answer is “No”.
