In this episode of AnimalZone, airing this Saturday, April 13 at 8:30 AM on Cox Television’s National Network, viewers are taken on a journey to the serene and magical San Diego Animal Sanctuary & Farm in Alpine, California. Founded by Agnes Barrelet, this 20-acre sanctuary serves as a safe haven for over 210 domesticated livestock and exotic animals from around the world. Inspired by the movie "We Bought a Zoo," Agnes Barrelet's dream was to create a beautiful place in nature where families could connect with animals and spend quality time together. Over the last decade, she has rescued over 200 animals and established biological gardens and orchards to sustain both the animals and the public.
The farm offers interactive encounters designed to foster an appreciation for animals, nature, sustainable farming, and the ecosystem. From African animals like zebras and ostriches to farm animals like potbelly pigs and chickens, the sanctuary is home to a diverse array of species. Visitors can also encounter exotic animals such as American bison and camels, as well as various reptiles and wild birds.
The episode then shifts to Irvine, Orange County, where viewers are introduced to the Irvine Animal Care Center. Managed by Mike Cribbin, the center provides shelter, care, and enrichment for homeless, neglected, abused, or unwanted animals. Services include licensing for Irvine residents, pet adoptions, and events. The center is committed to promoting healthy human-animal relationships and increasing animal adoption into responsible homes. Viewers get a glimpse of clicker training with a frisky dog and learn about the center's Virtual 5K event in June, where dogs and their owners receive medals and certificates.
