Set your alarms and mark your calendars, because this Saturday, August 10, at 8:30 AM on Cox Cable's national network, AnimalZone takes you on an unforgettable voyage to Japan to visit ARK (Animal Refuge Kansai). Founded by Elizabeth Oliver, a university professor with a heart as big as a sumo wrestler, ARK began in Osaka and grew to 600 rescues following the devastating Kobe earthquake. Since then, it’s been a sanctuary where tails wag and spirits soar.
Julie Okamoto, Director of ARK and our intrepid host, introduces us to Sasayama ARK, nestled in the picturesque Hyogo countryside. Here is a bucolic sprawling dog park where canines can frolic and play, and a pristine river that flows as gracefully as a haiku. It’s a pooch paradise!
Meet Snoopy and Shell, two delightful doggies waiting for their forever homes. These pups have been pampered by ARK’s volunteers, who treat them like the royalty they are. ARK’s philosophy is simple: every animal is an individual, not just a breed or an age. Their mission? To find the perfect family match that would make even a matchmaker blush.
ARK isn’t just about giving animals a second chance; it's about educating the public too. They hold educational events at schools and organizations to make sure people know which furry friend will fit each lifestyle like a well-tailored kimono. And let’s not forget the gourmet touch – in the early days, Elizabeth herself cooked up meals for the animals. Today, they still enjoy a mix of home-cooked goodness and donated quality pet food. Talk about a five-paw dining experience!
ARK holds adoption events in Tokyo and opens its doors to visitors at their facilities in Osaka and at Sasayama. So, whether you’re looking to adopt or just want to bask in the joy of seeing happy animals, ARK welcomes you and your donations with open paws!
