Animal Zone: Cats, Dogs & Forever Homes - Oahu SPCA’s Journey - Season 14, Episode 03

On this episode of AnimalZone, we visit the Oahu SPCA and meet Executive Director Adrian Preciado, who shares the inspiring story of how the shelter began in 2009. When founder Stephanie learned of a farm with over 300 animals left behind after the owner’s passing, she took action. The urgent need for care sparked the creation of Oahu’s very first no-kill shelter, built on the belief that “Every healthy, treatable animal will find a forever home.”

At the shelter, we meet Diva, a three-year-old pit bull who arrived pregnant and went on to give birth to six puppies. Two of her little ones steal the spotlight during our visit, showcasing that irresistible puppy energy. Diva herself is now one of the stars of Oahu SPCA’s popular Doggie Day Trip program, where visitors and locals alike can take a shelter dog out for an adventure—or even just a cozy movie day at home. These outings not only bring joy to the people and pups alike, but they also help improve the dogs’ mental health and increase their chances of adoption.

We also step into the cat and kitten shelter and meet Cottontail, a very cute kitty with a lot of kitten charm. We explore the age-old question: who rules adoption on Oahu—cats or dogs?
