Animal Zone: Hooves of Hope: From Hurricane to Haven - Season 15, Episode 12

In this deeply moving episode of AnimalZone, we travel to the heart of Homestead, where resilience, compassion, and second chances take center stage at the South Florida SPCA.

Born from the devastation of Hurricane Andrew, this remarkable sanctuary began as a lifeline for abandoned and displaced horses—and has since grown into a haven for animals of all kinds.

Under the tireless leadership of Executive Director Christine Septer, hundreds of animals each year are given not just shelter, but a true second chance—whether through heartfelt reunions or loving adoptions.

Host Arthur von Wiesenberger introduces us to some unforgettable residents, including Stone, a graceful senior white horse; Tiny Tim, a resilient pony with a prosthetic hoof and an unbreakable spirit; and Hee Haw, a 30-year-old miniature donkey who enjoys nothing more than being read to by visiting children—proving that stories can heal more than just hearts.

But the surprises don’t stop there. We learn about Chanel—also known as Bis Golden Glory—an artist with four hooves whose abstract paintings have raised funds and eyebrows alike. Two delightfully affectionate LaMancha goats charm their way into our hearts, while Pilgrim, a magnificent steer rescued on Thanksgiving, stands as a towering symbol of gratitude and survival.

With the help of a dedicated team of volunteers and an inspiring outreach program connecting with schools and community groups, the South Florida SPCA continues to educate, uplift, and transform lives—both human and animal.

It’s a story of hope rising from hardship, where every hoofbeat, bray, and brushstroke tells a tale of resilience. Because in the AnimalZone, every rescue is a masterpiece in the making.
